Kashmir

Earthquake

Disaster Overview

Kashmir, a region long disputed between India and Pakistan, remained divided and heavily militarized—an ongoing conflict zone. In the midst of a brutal winter, a devastating earthquake struck the region, claiming 87,000 lives, injuring over 75,000, and displacing 4 million people. In response, IFA launched a covert cross-border humanitarian operation to deliver life-saving aid to both the Indian- and Pakistani-controlled areas of Kashmir. With both governments blocking assistance from reaching communities on the opposing side, women and children were left to starve and freeze simply because of belonging to “the wrong side” of the conflict. IFA’s covert deployment ensured that aid reached those in desperate need—regardless of political affiliation—upholding our commitment to humanity above all.

Impact

IFA provided critical relief on the ground: we procured and distributed equipment and tools for 1,500 temporary shelters, delivered 10,000 blankets to families braving the harsh winter, and served 70,000 hot meals to those left without food or support.
