Disaster Overview
A catastrophic cyclone struck the Irrawaddy Delta, destroying millions of homes and leaving entire communities devastated. With the country under military junta rule, foreign aid organizations were barred from entering, leading to a dramatic rise in the death toll as assistance was blocked at the border. In response, IFA launched a covert humanitarian mission to reach the Burmese people with life-saving aid. We were the first NGO to penetrate the delta and deliver critical support—offering hope and relief where none was allowed.

Impact
IFA provided emergency relief to 80,000 people in the Irrawaddy Delta, distributing dry food supplies, candles, and tarps to create temporary shelter in the wake of widespread destruction and government inaction. Our covert humanitarian operation in Burma gained international attention. Al Jazeera reported on IFA’s efforts, highlighting our role as the first NGO to reach the affected population and provide direct aid on the ground.
