Human Conflict

Disaster Overview

In April 2011, at the onset of the Syrian civil war, Israeli Flying Aid was one of the first NGOs to deliver life-saving humanitarian aid to women and children inside Syria. To protect the safety of our team members and local partners, we do not disclose the operational details of our missions. However, we can share that we have successfully delivered aid through three different borders. As Israelis and Jews, we are guided by a moral imperative: we do not stand idly by in the face of genocide, bearing a unique responsibility to defend the innocent and speak for those whose voices have been silenced. IFA exists to honor that responsibility by acting where others do not.

Breka” Maternity Ward
In response to the regime’s targeted airstrikes on hospitals, we built the “”Breka”” Women’s Hospital, just one kilometer from the Israeli border, out of range of Syrian and Russian bombers, to allow safe births and treat rape victims, including reconstructive surgeries. Many women were scared to go into hospitals because as they were targeted in airstrikes by the regime and the Russians, a strategy to harm the resilience of the civilians. As a result thousands of Syrian women gave birth at home, in dangerous and unsterile environments. IFA’s hospital provided women with excellent care and a safe place to give birth, one kilometer from the Israeli border. The hospital had 17 beds, 4 delivery rooms, and 2 operating rooms. At full capacity the hospital treated over 510 women a month.
